Board Responsibilities
The chief responsibilities of any non-profit board are to familiarize themselves with any relevant laws and regulations, set the rules of the group, record all group decisions regarding personnel and financials that the group makes, and generally act in the best interest of the group. Here are some processes that help us meet those requirements.
Renew the organizational by-laws annually (propose in fall, approve in winter)
Approve a top-level annual budget (propose & approve in fall)
Collect event budget reconciliations (after each event)
Produce an financial report (spring meeting)
File each document into the OMEA organizational archives
File meeting minutes
Record the results of our biennial board elections in the minutes
Minutes should include:
Attendance
Summary of discussions useful to the archives
Financial decisions
Changes to board membership
Changes to the by-laws
