Registration Info from Kiera

12 - 1 - 23

Hello Olympic Region Instrumental teachers!

If you become aware that I have missed any teachers within our region, please let me know! If I have sent this to you in error, please disregard!

Our Solo and Ensemble Contest registration site is currently being set up and you will be able to begin entering student entries starting December 8, 2023. Your access to the site will close February 2, 2024 at 11:59 PM, so please make sure you have fully completed all entries by that date. Alert! By state contest rules, if you miss that deadline the following rule will be enforced:

2.11 The school represented by state eligible entries wishing to perform at a region contest that were not registered using the online registration system by the published deadline will be assessed a fine of $50 per late solo entry, and/or $100 per late ensemble entry. Payment, or a signed agreement to pay must be received by the Wednesday prior to the region event. Non-state eligible entries may be allowed to participate with no additional penalty fee, for comment only, at the discretion of the region contest manager on a space available basis. No entries will be added to the region contest schedule after the Sunday prior to contest day.

I have attached a tutorial that will guide you through accessing the site, logging in, and includes step by step instructions. If you have any challenges, just let me or John Wetherington (johnw@wmea.org) know.

I have also attached the 2024 State Solo and Ensemble Contest Rules document and a separate document highlighting the most recent updates. As teachers of students choosing to compete, it is our responsibility to understand all rules, so it’s a good time to refresh your memory and note any changes.

Finally, I have attached two worksheets you can use to gather student entry info if you wish. They are in Word, so feel free to edit before distribution. This is strictly optional, and I do not want you to send them to me—the entire process is done online.

Payment Information

Entry fees are $20 per solo, $25 per Ensemble entry. Please make any payments via check payable to OMEA, 3924 Franway Lane SW, Port Orchard, WA 98367.

By February 11, 2023 by 11:59 PM it is very important that you print your invoice. That invoice will reflect all of your successfully submitted entries, and only those entries will be state eligible. Study it very carefully and process payment to OMEA prior to the event to ensure timely payment.

I am looking forward to cohosting our Solo and Ensemble Contest this year w/ Gary Grams! It will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2023 at South Kitsap High School.

Thank you,

 Kiera Merwine
