Welcome to modern chemistry! We will learn about atomic structure, bonding, reactions, and how chemistry is related to helping society. Chemistry can be challenging, but very rewarding!

Grade breakdown

Homework & preparation (XX%)

  • Upload problem sets for each lesson on Jupiter.

  • Complete and on time = 10/10. Late = 5/10.

  • The lowest grade in this category will be dropped.

Classwork & participation (XX%)

  • Come to class. Participate.

  • Take online quizzes (open notes, in groups) during class.

  • Work in the lab room most weeks.

  • Absent? The lowest grade in this category will be dropped.

Assessments (XX%)

  • Tests are given every few weeks in class.

  • Absent? There will be a make-up test at the end of the term.

  • Absent again? Talk to Dr. O.

  • If you are able to show up for all tests, including the make-up at the end of the term, the lowest grade in this category will be dropped.

  • Prefer taking notes digitally on a tablet? No problem.

  • Laptops are not permitted barring special circumstances.

  • Scientific or graphing calculator (No, not your phone)

  • Albert practice (class code = TBD)

  • Textbook (available from the school)

Be academically honest

  • Provide adequate citations for sources.

  • Do not copy or submit someone else's work.

  • Do not use notes or other materials during a test without permission.

  • Do not share questions or answers with students who have yet to take a test.

  • Speak up when you see academic dishonesty in others.
