AP CHEMISTRY

Objectives

Welcome to AP chemistry! This class simulates a college level chemistry course. We will learn about chemical identification, bonding, reaction applications, and how chemistry is used to help society. AP chemistry is challenging and rewarding. 

Grade breakdown

Homework (20%)

• Upload problem sets for each lesson on Jupiter.

• Complete and on time?... 10/10

• Late, but during the same unit?... 5/10

• Submitted after we've finished that unit?... 0/10

• The lowest grade in this category will be dropped.

Classwork (20%)

• Come to class. Participate.

• Take online check-ins (open notes, in groups) during class.

• Absent? Do the check-in once you feel better. No penalty. Much later than that? No penalty. 

• Work safely in the lab room: wear goggles, no food, tie back long hair, no sandals, no contact lenses

• Read & sign the student lab safety contract before the first lab.

• Absent for a lab? Get the data from a friend & submit.

• The lowest grade in this category will be dropped.

Assessments (60%)

• Tests (aka celebrations!) are given every few weeks in class.

• Absent? There will be a cumulative make-up at the end of the term.

• Absent again? Talk to Dr. O. 

• If you are able to show up for all tests, including the make-up at the end of the term, the lowest grade in this category will be dropped.
