Science Week 2021 in Our Lady of Good Counsel proved to be a great success due to the tremendous work carried out by pupils and teachers. The extent of their efforts is seen in the photos below where classes conducted a variety of experiments. During the week pupils were encouraged to explore, observe, ask questions, plan, experiment, design, make, measure, discuss and evaluate results and develop a scientific approach to problem solving.
In 4th class we conducted many interesting experiments and had a variety of fantastic science zoom meetings and speakers, 'Wild about Wildlife - Fish, The Wonderful World of Soapy Surfaces with Dr. Mark Walsh, Supermarket Science with Scientific Sue, Kids Corner: Facts about Cows, Milk and Grass and Niall De BĂşrca storyteller.
5th class rolled up their sleeves and tackled the task of creating slime and ended up with very interesting and impressive results as seen below.
4th class observed various forms of eruptions with Mentos and diet coke and they designed their own volcanoes and tested them out during the week. The girls were very creative and imaginative when designing their volcanoes.
Junior infants used bread soda, food colouring and vinegar to create a bubbly potion for Halloween. Well done girls!
2nd Class were very creative designing parachutes and testing them with toy figures. They also did the skittles experiment and the melting chocolate experiment. Super work!
Senior Infants were very busy during Science Week. They carried out experiments such as 'Cloud in a Jar' and took part in nature walks searching for trees, plants, berries and insects.
