Tree Week 2021
Wild Cherry Sapling
The first activity undertaken in October as part of our STEM projects was looking at Science: Living Things and linking it to Tree Week. The theme for this year's Tree campaign is "Trees are Good Neighbours", emphasising the fact that trees have an incredibly positive, good neighbourly effect on all biodiversity including ourselves.
With the help of our caretaker Mark, 4th class planted a Wild Cherry Tree Sapling or Crann Silíní Fiáin in an attempt to promote the positive effects trees have on our environment.
The girls identified some trees on our school grounds and below are their Tree projects.
Apple Tree
Hawthorn Tree
Beech Tree
Holly Tree
Elderberry Tree
5th class explored, learned about and designed the digestive system. Check out their very detailed digestive systems below!
6th class were learning about the connection between sight, smell and taste. They learned that different parts of the tongue have different taste buds to taste sweet, sour, bitter, salty. And also when your nose is blocked (with a peg!) your taste is affected. In the second experiment 6th class tried to predict what certain liquids were and then investigated by looking, smelling and tasting.
Junior Infants were busy investigating the conditions needed for plants to grow. They were very creative in designing their colourful plant pots and you can see how well their cress plants are growing. Well done Juniors!
