Indecent
Watts Theatre
I designed this rain machine as Technical Director for a production of Indecent. It was made of PVC pipes with small holes drilled in the top. Water traveled from a hose in the trap room below the stage to the PVC, then dripped down onto the designated area of the stage. In this area, we removed a few pieces of the trap floor and replaced them with a system to drain the water back down.
This project was incredibly difficult, but so worthwile in the end. While the creative team was convinced that real water was needed for this effect, management didn't want any chance of ruining the actual stage with water damage. I had to come up with and present a plan that convinced everyone that we could achieve the rain while also keeping the stage safe. My technical team and I were able to make it happen with no damage at all.
