The purpose of this chapter is to establish guidelines for the conduct, responsibilities, and expectations of San Andreas State Police (SASP) officers while off duty.Â
Officers must conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the professional standards of the SASP, avoiding any behavior that could bring discredit to the department.
Officers must comply with all state laws while off duty.
Any involvement in criminal activity, whether as a participant, accomplice, or bystander failing to act within the legal obligations of law enforcement, may result in disciplinary action.
Officers are not required to take law enforcement action while off duty but must act within their best judgment if public safety is at immediate risk.
If an officer witnesses a crime requiring immediate intervention, they should first attempt to contact on-duty law enforcement unless circumstances dictate otherwise.
Officers who take enforcement action while off duty must notify command as soon as possible.
Officers are not permitted to engage in off-duty enforcement if they are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or in any state that could impair judgment.
Officers are not permitted to carry their department-issued firearms off duty.
Officers who choose to carry a personal firearm off duty must do so responsibly and discreetly.
Officers are prohibited from engaging in employment that presents a conflict of interest with their role as a law enforcement officer.
Officers are prohibited from disclosing confidential or sensitive information related to department operations.
Officers must avoid political or public statements that compromise their impartiality as representatives of law enforcement.
