The Bea Small Leadership Speakers Fund is part of the Committees Subject to Endowments. It was established in 1996 from a bequest of Bea Small with additional funds from her daughter, Barbara Woodworth. Bea Small was a member of Omega Chapter. The interest from the $8000 base may be used annually or biennially to provide speakers, facilitators or workshop presenters to assist in the leadership training of NYSO members. This leadership development can occur during Leadership Development Seminars or workshops for State Officers, State Committee Chairs or during the Spring or Fall Seminars or the NYSO Convention. No NYSO members may receive money from the fund. The Committee strongly encourages our members to make contributions to this fund so that outstanding leadership development workshops may be provided in the future. Members may consider a contribution in memory of a sister whom you felt exhibited strong leadership qualities.
Goals of the Bea Small Leadership Speakers Fund Committee:
To review applications and select a speaker(s) for NYSO leadership development training.
To make members more aware of this fund and to solicit donations to re-establish the base.

The Verna Mulholland Friend of Education Award Board of Trustees is part of the Committees Subject to Endowments. The Committee is charged with seeking, reviewing and recommending a nominee for this Award on an annual basis.
The Committee was established in 1982 in memory of Verna Mulholland, Past President of Alpha Phi and Past Pi State President. In 1982, she and Gladys Mersereau were planning the State Convention to be held in Lake Placid at a future date when they were both killed in a car accident. She envisioned giving an award to someone who made an outstanding contribution to education but wasn't eligible for membership. She hoped the publicity that would come from giving this award to a well-known person would increase the visibility of DKG.
Early Award winners included Beverly Sills and the first woman to win a Nobel Prize.
The Verna Mulholland Friend of Education Award is a plaque celebrating the recipient’s contribution to improving educational opportunities of others and to promoting quality education. There is a stipend along with the Award not to exceed $300 to cover the recipient’s costs incurred in participating in the Award ceremony. The interest from the Fund’s base of five thousand dollars ($5000) is used for the monetary stipend. The Fund is maintained by voluntary contributions. The Award is presented at the spring NYSO Executive Board Meeting/Seminar or the NYSO Convention.
The nominee for this Award shall be a woman from New York State who is NOT a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and is not eligible for membership in the Society, but rather someone outside the profession who has worked significantly toward improving the educational opportunities of others and who has given outstanding service to promoting quality education.
Nominees for this Award may be submitted for consideration to the Board of Trustees by any Chapter or member of NYSO based on State Standing Rules. Nominations of women who do not receive the Award are kept for consideration the next year. The Nomination Application must be mailed to the Chair of the Board of Trustees no later than February 15th. The Nomination Application must include a narrative, not to exceed 300 words, that states the following:
1. Significant past and present contributions of the nominee to education, including:
a. length and type of service given
b. importance to those served
c. specific results of any program(s) developed
2. Nominee's current influence on or involvement in this educational opportunity. Chapters are encouraged to nominate deserving women for this Award and to send the nomination application to the Verna Mulholland Friend of Education Award Chair by February 15th.
