If you plan to stay in Taiwan for more than 90 days, you will need to apply for a Visitor Visa for the purpose of studying Chinese
A Visitor Visa is extendable as long as there are no other annotations indicating otherwise
You may apply for extension once or twice, depending on your Visa duration; the maximum duration of stay is 180 days
If you plan to stay in Taiwan for less than 90 days, you may not need to apply for a Visa if your passport qualifies you for Visa-exempt Entry
You will need to check if your country qualifies for Visa-exempt Entry (see reference links for more information)
Important: Visa-exempt entry will NOT be able to extend or change visa types in Taiwan; you must leave and re-enter Taiwan to renew (except for British & Canadian citizens)
As Visa-exempt entries will not qualify for extended stay, you need to evaluate carefully if your entire stay in Taiwan (including time outside of program attendance) could exceed 90 days

Important reminder: The expiration date on the Visa page should be identified based on the information in the ''duration of stay'' field; you have to count to figure out the Visa expiration date by yourself. The ''Enter Before'' date refers to the date before which you shall enter Taiwan, and you will start counting your duration of stay on the second day after you arrive in Taiwan
Upon completing 4 continued months of study with ICLP/CLD and registering for 3 more months, students may apply to convert their visitor visa into an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC), so as to cover their stay in Taiwan past the first 6 months.
For availability of resident visas prior to traveling to Taiwan, students are advised to consult their nearest TEC(R)O directly.
Apply for a Resident Visa at the Bureau of Consular Affairs: Bring the documents required for application to the Bureau of Consular Affairs to apply for a resident visa in the fourth month. See here for more information: Resident Visas for Studying Mandarin Chinese

There are a wide range of housing available in Taiwan. Options range from economical dormitory-style facilities to upscale condominiums and even houses for rent. Many students choose to live in temporary accommodation during their first week or so in Taiwan while looking for more permanent accommodation. Although NTU cannot guarantee on-campus accommodation, it is possible to review the alternative accommodation options we offer by following the links below.
