The NTU Huayu BEST Program collaborates with the University of Texas at Austin and Harvard University to have the NTU graduate students in the Graduate Program of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL) tutor undergraduate Chinese learners at the partner institutions. This collaboration initially came about as an adaptation to the COVID pandemic and has since then capitalized on the technological capabilities that transcend the geographical boundaries.
Each semester, the NTU TCSL graduate student tutors facilitate 1:1 tutoring classes for their students on a weekly basis. Partner institutions’ students must be enrolled in Chinese language courses at their institution to be eligible for the tutoring classes. This is a mutually beneficial collaboration as the NTU TCSL students are gaining teaching experiences while the undergraduate students are improving their language proficiency. The Chinese language faculty at the respective partner institutions also consistently provide constructive feedback to help train the TCSL students to become more effective educators.
Below are feedback shared by past student participants in this collaboration.
