So this is the next book I read in french. Just a reminder that they are all recommendations of my french teacher, I did not choose to read this (I'm not supporter). This book was written by the belgian author Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt and it explores a really interesting point of view, which is Hitler's life had he succeeded to become a painter. I am such a big history buff so I love all kinds of historic readings (maybe just not the medieval ones) and upon finding this in my teacher's list it peaked my interest. The book itself follows the path of a biography, by it does change the most major part of Hitler's life, getting accepted to art school. So I guess we could say that this is a biography of Hitler's life in an alternative reality. The book itself is quite interesting, it talks about his childhood and then we have two split realities where in the first he get accepted to become a painter and in the other...well we all know what happens. I found it wuite interesting to look at those two parallels, it really makes you think about the "what ifs" that we so often like to ask ourselves. "What if I did this? What if I had said this" and then trying to imagine how the course of you life would have been changed and what would've been different today had you done mereley ONE single thing differently.
I do classify this book as a sort of biography, though it was quite long and filled with so many descriptions (which of course you might like, it's just that sometimes for me these books get a little "slow" in a sense) it explained many details and thing that a person wouldn't really pay attention to.
Star rating: I give this book a solid 3 star. Obviously the theme was quite interesting and I enjoy psychological books and discovering a different scenario. As I previously mentioned, it was indeed quite long and too descriptive at times for my personal liking.
