*High-pitched scream* I finally read this book!! I've been wanting to read it ever since I started my list of book to read, but I finally got around to it this week. Now to be honest, I was planning to start the week with a French book, but sadly I couldn't manage to keep reading after thirty pages (still going to read, just gotta push myself). I decided to just open this one instead, thinking that maybe I won't get really into it and will go back to the French on. Let me tell you, it did not go like that at all. Ever since page one I was glued to it. Spent the whole next day reading it, every break from class we got, the whole lunch break, I was enchanted. And thank god I was alone at home, because some parts would make me blush so madly that if my mom was at home, she would've seen a true tomato. Now I think at this point pretty much everyone knows what the plot of the book is, but nevertheless, let's go over it shortly.
Alex Clairmont-Diaz is the 21-year-old son of the first female US president, Ellen Clairmont, who was elected in 2016. It is now 2019, and her and her crew are getting ready for the 2020 reelections. Alex has an older sister named June, she is 24 and wants to become a journalist. The third member of the well known by the public "White House Trio" is Nora Holleran, who is the Vice President's granddaughter. Alex has been passionate about politics his entire life, and is now in his last year of university, majoring in politics and hoping to become the youngest senator by age 30. After being invited to the royal wedding, an event Alex truly wished he could skip, not wishing to see Henry, the prince of England. At the wedding, Alex get drunk and naturally causes an argument with Henry, which results in them both falling over the wedding cake, presumed to cost $75,000. After the accident, Alex and Henry are forced to sign a contract and act as best friends in order to preserve the Crown family as well as the White House's image. As you could have guessed, all of this pretending leads to them falling in love, despite the complications in their relationship. Alex starts questioning his sexuality, coming up to the conclusion that he is in fact, very bi, and you will absolutely laugh while reading all the schemes and lies they come up with to cover up their secret relationship. Henry gets over his fear of being himself and ends up telling his family the truth, refusing to hide his true self anymore, not for his family, not for anyone. But some of their reactions are far from pleasant and the...someone leaks all of their private emails and a couple of incriminating photos. The new elections are here, the people are angry at the White House, the Queen is far from happy about the Henry situation, so what will the two guys do to get over all these obstacles and ensure that their relationship will move forward? Guess you have to read the book and see (*spoiler: they obviously do)
Star rating: *throws 5 stars aggressively* This book is a modern romance masterpiece. The plot is brilliant, Alex and Henry's relationship is the absolute cutest and most heartfelt thing I've ever read. Trust me, some of the emails they wrote to each other were so beautiful, I was ready to shed a tear. Please do yourself a favor and read it. It was truly brilliant and reading right after Valentine's Day was probably not the best idea...
