Okay, okay, hear me out! I know you're all wondering "Why the hell haven't you already read this book, I mean it's a classic!". In my defense, I've never really been interested in classics. Like in the beginning, when I started reading (probably when I was around 10, which I know seems kind of late to start reading, but what I mean by reading is being genuinely interested in reading for the sake of it, and not because school made me, or my mom) I was only interested in the kids' "classics", you know Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, stuff like that. Nevertheless, I had watched the film before, many times actually. So obviously I was really eager to read it, that's why it was one of the first ones I read. Now I don't really know what to say about it, except it's absolutely BRILLIANT!
The story centers around Elizabeth Bennet, the second oldest daughter of five. Upon her first meeting with Mr Darcy, Lizzie deems him but a haughty, arrogant man, overlooks her usually good judgement of people because of her hurt pride and believes all the rumors about him. Nevertheless, after many encounters, Elizabeth gets to know him and starts regretting how badly she misjudged him. Turns out, he’s not who she portraited him to be. Following her sister Jane’s engagement to Mr Bingley, while on a stroll together, Elizabeth ultimately professes her love for Mr Darcy, and they get engaged. At last, overcoming their own pride and prejudice is what brought them together.
We all know this story, as it is the original slow burn enemies to lovers trope of Lizzie and Mr. Darcy. We also have the slightly different enemies to lovers of Jane and Mr. Bingley, where all the little misunderstandings got in the way of their relationship. All I can say is the story is brilliantly written, the characters are iconic and Elizabeth Bennet is still and will probably always be one of the strongest female characters I know.
I know the chances are low, but if anyone who hasn't read the book is reading this right now, I BEG you to read, for I am a hundred percent sure that you won't regret it. And let's be honest, who doesn't love a good romance story?
Star rating: Of course this book receives the whole five stars from me, which was to be expected, but no, it is actually an amazing book, so if you're a weirdo like me, and you haven't read it yet, make sure to put it on your to read list.
"She was convinced that she could be happy with him, when it was no longer likely they should meet."
