*Sigh* ahhhh Lore, this book was just mesmerizing. And yes, I know it's another Greek mythology one, but I just love them so much (you can expect more to come, I've even planned a few...). And I'm not sure if I'm biased or something and find every book about Greek mythology amazing (cough Percy Jackson cough) but this one was truly incredible.
The story is sort of like a Greek mythology version of the hunger games, but here's the main plot: The nine gods who once tried to overthrow Zeus, Apollo, Athena, Artemis, Poseidon, Ares, Hermes, Hephaestus, Aphrodite and Dionysus are all forced to become mortal every seven years for a total of seven days in order to participate in the Aegon. The Aegon, is the event where for those exact seven days, mortals have the possibility to kill a god and take their place. Even though there aren't that many people that know about it, they each have their house, as they are descendants of a famous Greek here. Lore, the main character of the story is the last one in her house, the Perseides. Her family was killed by the new Ares, and she has been in hiding for the last seven years. She had run away from her life, then one day before the Aegon she met with a presumed ghost of her past. Castor, her childhood friend who she believed was dead seeks out her help, she refuses and goes home. On here front door another surprise awaits, the goddess Athena, one of the few original remaining gods. She begs for her help, and in return agrees to kill the impostor Ares, who killed her parents and sisters. Lore agrees but then decides to seek out Castor, knowing that he was supposed to go finish his healer apprentice all those years ago. When she finds him, she discovers something else entirely. Castor was the new Apollo, one of the last remaining original gods. Following all the adventures of Lore, Apollo, Athena and their friends, you will friend brilliant and unexpected plot twists. I genuinely read the book in less than a day, I could not put it down. Castor and Lore are such a ship, the anticipation of their romance killed me.
Star rating: I can't possibly give this book less than five stars. It had all the key elements that I need to enjoy a book. Slow burning romance: check, Greek mythology: check, action: check, plot twists: check. Simply fascinating.
