Synopsis:
Gaia, the spirit of the Earth, sends 5 rings to teenagers from all over the world. Each ring has a special power and represents a different element.
The rings go to:
Wheeler from North America (power of fire)
Gi from Asia (power of water)
Kwame from Africa (power of Earth)
Linka from Europe (power of wind)
Ma-Ti from South America (power of heart)
The 5 teens are referred to as the Planeteers. When problems are too big for the Planeteers to solve themselves, they combine their powers to summon Captain Planet.
Captain Planet is a superhero that encompasses all of the Planeteers powers combined. He typically shows up when the Planeteers become overwhelmed with a problem and protects the Earth while foiling the eco-villains’ plans. He is light blue with green hair and has a globe on the chest of his costumes.
Eco-Villains include:
Hoggish Greedly – represents over consumption and greed.
Verminous Skumm – represents urban blight, disease, and drug abuse.
Duke Nukem – represents the misuse of nuclear power.
Dr. Blight – represents the dangers of uncontrolled technology and unethical scientific experimentation.
Looten Plunder – represents the evils of unethical business actions.
Sly Sludge – represents laziness, ignorance, and the dangers of apathy and short-term thinking.
Zarm – a former spirit of the Earth; he represents war and destruction.
Captain Pollution is the evil counterpart of Captain Planet. He actively seeks to pollute and destroy the Earth and is aligned with the Eco-Villains. Captain Pollution is yellow and covered in brown lesions. His hair and eyes are red. His costume is the same as Captain Planet’s but is dirty and the globe on his chest is torn.
