Colegiul de Industrie Alimentara "Elena Doamna"
“Elena Doamna” Food Industry College from Galati, Romania, founded in 1966, has a long tradition in vocational training in the field of food industry, tourism and catering, natural resources and environment protection. Our school has a total of 1000 students trained by 67 highly qualified teachers. The students study in general knowledge classes, in modern laboratories like: Physics,Microbiology, Chemistry and IT laboratories but also in workshops where they have their practice sessions for milk processing, meat processing, preserves and pastry workshop, bakery, and brewery. Teachers and trainers develop students’ abilities and knowledge.
The school has also a modern library with a number of 21,000 volumes, a gym, a festivity hall, a hostel and a canteen for students.
A lot of our students come from rural areas of Galati, a former industrial city, situated in a disadvantaged zone because of its high rate of unemployment. Due to economic situation of our city, our students are forced to leave the country in order to find a job. Many of them are not well prepared for emigration as their foreign languages skills are not good enough for a good conversational level. Even though they have to sit a competences exam at English or French right before the Bacalaureate exam, their motivation to study is low and their results get lower and lower every year.
Furthermore, teachers have been involved in exchanges of information and good practices fact that demonstrates their willingness to learn new things and make the learning process a more attractive and accessible one for all kinds of students.
