Description: Request to install highly visible mechanical equipment at a two-story commercial building.  

Staff Recommendations: HDLC Guidelines for Commercial buildings state that mechanical equipment, which detracts from the historic appearance of buildings, should be located in the least visibly obtrusive location available.  It is not uncommon for placement of mechanical equipment in rear and side yards to be unviable, due to the building's relation to property lines.  If there is not another viable location for the equipment, Staff has no objection to the current proposed locations, as they are toward the rear of the building, provided that there are no viable alternatives that would be less visibly obtrusive.
