In CT Mx & LATAM we appreciate the words of our amigo Bill Fey, Canada Regional Director.

It is still cold this week, but the cherry blossoms are at their best in Kyoto and we can feel spring has come🌸

This is the story of the Japanese who brought the jacarandas to Mexico.

One day in 1910 a young man left Japan for Mexico in search of his father who abandoned him and his mother 13 years ago with the promise of returning. This family event was the origin of the jacaranda trees in Mexico, the moment responsible for the fact that every March and April the streets of the Mexican capital are dyed purplish blue left by their flowers.

Upon arriving in Mexico, it was not difficult for him to achieve his goal, since Tatsugoro Matsumoto, the man who had given him life, was the creator of a majestic garden with an artificial lake in the Crystal Palace to celebrate the centenary of the Independence of Mexico , for which he became the favorite outfielder of the Porfiriato.

Between 1920 and 1924, both Japanese gardeners proposed to President Álvaro Obregón to plant jacaranda trees on the main streets of the city. This idea was quite attractive to the politician, so he ended up giving in to the permit.

Tatsugoro and Sanshiro executed a jacaranda breeding plan in their nurseries when the tree had already been brought from Brazil.

From then until today, the jacaranda became a great symbol of Mexico City and continues to shine year after year during the spring, which makes it very clear that the work of the Matsumoto men left important fruits throughout the country. Mexican.

Cleaning up the environment with Automation

Waste not want not, single use is of no use, reforestation vs global warming, and ocean bots, are just some of the topics covered in this months blog, so if you’ve got an interest in saving the planet, and you want to read about automation aiding in an innovative way, then this’ll make an interesting read for you.

“With the race on to reduce the effects of Global Warming, reaching net zero by 2050 should be at the top of the agenda. Many are developing innovative ways to assist in these efforts.

Four million years ago was the last time carbon dioxide levels were as high as they are today. Emissions of green house gases have led to an accelerated increase in global temperatures. The repercussions of such have been wildfires, sweeping locusts that are decimating crops, melting ice caps and sheets, hurricanes, flooding, and heightened heatwaves. Automation can mitigate the situation with inventions such as sustainable planting bots, that can likewise be used in recycling and harvesting.

Food that was originally intended for human consumption is credited for producing around 1.3 tonnes of food loss and waste, enough to feed roughly 3 billion people. Food loss and waste accounts for a third of greenhouse gases, the same as China and the US put together.”
