The Naucan pronoun ye plays an important role in expressing reflexive, reciprocal, and inaccusative constructions. It can only be used referred to an animate being.
When the subject and the object of the verb are the same, ye marks reflexivity.
Ikuzit urse yek. — “They looked at themselves.”
In plural or collective contexts, ye is used to express mutual action between participants.
Yardimzit urna yek. — “We helped each other.”
With some intransitive verbs that describe a change of state, ye can optionally appear to emphasize that the subject undergoes the action, not performs it.
Khuphegabō na yek! — “I'm going crazy!”
