Justification/ Reflection:
During my time in both placement settings I understand that teaching is much more than just creating and delivering a lesson plan. Standard 8 has helped me learn that it is important to take responsibility for improving teaching through appropriate professional development by responding to advice and feedback from colleagues. I took it upon myself to always ask for advice and ideas from other experienced teachers. In addition, I always listened to any feedback from my lessons and made sure to apply the feedback straight away in my learning. For example, after one of my literacy lessons, my mentor suggested that I was keeping the children on the carpet too long during my input. Responding to this feedback, I made sure manage my lesson time well the following lessons and not too spend too much time on the carpet. Often, I would adapt my teaching during the lesson if I felt the children were spending too much time on a task or equally completing a task too quick. This had a positive impact on my teaching ability as I was able to manage my time more effectively. In addition, the children were often more focused during my lessons and this meant that they were able to learn more. This highlights that my teaching ability improved during my placements by responding to the feedback from others.
In the future, I will continue to ask for advice and feedback from my lessons and make sure to apply feedback to my future teaching. I will also continue to observe other experienced teachers as this is a great way of developing new teaching methods and gaining ideas.
