Justification statement/reflection
From studying this standard, I have learnt that it is important to have a secure knowledge of the subject area and create lesson plans which foster and maintain pupils’ interest in the subject. Therefore, prior to planning my lessons I made sure that I researched all subjects thoroughly before teaching. One subject I researched was the Egyptians, I used books, internet resources and teaching websites to find out lots of useful information about the Egyptians. As its significant to plan lessons which foster and maintain pupils’ interest, I decided to incorporate different subjects such as: Art, D. T, I.C.T and R.E into my lessons. This meant that most of my lessons were hands on such as making canopic jars and mummification and as a result, this meant that lessons were engaging and therefore this had a positive impact on children’s learning. I used various elements of technology within my lessons, for example, IPads, Google Earth, PowerPoints’. Technology to keep the children interested. This also meant that they were experiencing different learning styles.
In the future, I will continue to broaden my knowledge on relevant subject areas in relation to the curriculum which I will be teaching. As well as researching the subject, it would be beneficial to ask other teaching practitioners for ideas and suggestions to use throughout my lessons to make them more interesting. I would also be researching ways to enhance these sessions e.g. trips in the locality that would help to clarify lesson objectives.
