Justification statement/reflection
Teaching standard 4 suggests that it is important to impart knowledge in all lessons and I learnt how important it is to make effective use of lesson time. When planning my lessons, I make sure to plan a well-structured lesson that has a starter, input, a practical task and then a plenary at the end. I make sure to keep a good pace throughout the lesson to portray good flexibility and allow an equal amount of time on the carpet as well as practical group work to take place. I make sure to include a range of different activities to allow different types of learning to take place. For example, in a topic lesson I got the children to use a map to locate places and then got the children to order themselves into a timeline practically before writing the timeline on paper. Both these activities were different and engaging. The map activity allowed the children to use their geography skills as well as using technology on google earth. Whereas, the timeline activity allowed the children to work as a team to complete the timeline practically in the classroom.
All activities were planned so that the children could achieve the desired learning outcome but by using a range of different activities, the lesson was more engaging for the pupils’ and this had a positive impact on their learning. In the future, I will continue to make effective use of lesson time and to always feedback from the lesson before in my starter activity. This is a great way of gaining effective assessment for learning and helps to shape the next sessions.
