Reading the verses to the right, you will notice YHWH communicating differently to every one. So I will try to give you some steps, but you will have to learn for yourself.

However! this is a relationship, there is no set order, God will have a different relationship with you than me. Just like I have a different one with each of my 4 sons and wife.

Free will is the gift we have to believe or not. The greatest gift ever given. God could have made robots, but that would not be a relationship. Right? If you are forced or programed to love or be with someone that is slavery or robot. God who can do anything but make you want relationship with Him. Kind of funny when you think about it. If we don't do our jobs given to us by YHWH creator God that we GET to do in partnership with him, then he will find other disciples to do it, if they won't then he will find a donkey to do it, if he won't, then he will make the stones do our job! Don't you want first chance at it?!
When we enter this relationship with God we then recognize His voice. Yep we all hear voices. Our own thoughts flesh like, “I should not go to that event I'm too tired.’ The devil's thoughts are like, “Do not Go to that event. You should sleep” Then there is that still small voice, a gentle voice we hear if we listen for it. God wants to direct and He uses his voice to tell us like, “Do go to that event. I will be with you” You have heard it we all have. The story of the man that did not get on the airplane because of a gut feeling or a voice. Well I am telling you there is more than that once in a while voice. Look at this:
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. John 16:13
Notice He speaks and guides and is the voice of truth!
Often we see in this present day and from scriptures people who were led by this voice.
Here are a few: Abraham to go, Moses to lead, Peter to go to Cornelius, Sarah, Hagar and on and on.

How do we hear God’s voice? As I tell you of the events I will point out how I heard God’s voice and others heard the same thing. This is God’s way of confirming what He is saying.
I want to stop here and say this to you. If you want to hear God just ask? Yep! That easy. The hard part is listening.
Ask:

Bible Verses about Listening (Notice how many include the action words like "DO". Hearing God's voice includes trust, obeying and doing.)
Listen: Ears to hear is mentioned 7 times in the book of revelations to each church!

Example: your servant that speaks another language can not understand you, their master. So no communication how can he serve?

Got to hear it to perform the miracle
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
Anger is not Samuel telling Saul the truth, anger is for self gain if in flesh. Anger for truth, Jesus at temple is righteousness. Stand on truth the Spirit is Truth!

Yep God is still speaking. He desires what He had in the garden. He wants us to listen!

Here it helps to understand that the “knowing” as understood in Scripture does not have the modern Western notion of simple intellectual knowing. To “know,” in biblical terms, more richly describes knowing through personal experience. Hence it implies an intimacy, a personal experience of another person, thing, or event. Sometimes the Scriptures use “knowing” as a euphemism for sexual intercourse (Gen 4:17,25; lk 1:34 etc).
It's rare that we have to ask our spouse what their "will" or "desire" for us is.....We know them so well, we know what to do for them. So our first step should be trying to get to know who God is, through the Bible and through others that know him well.
Heaven is only for those who do the Will of God.
Many people today do not know their specific individual assignment on earth. Go, shut all doors, kneel down, pray and ask Jesus Christ what He created you to do on earth and when He answers leave everything else to do His Will.
And this is scary Jeremiah 6:10

A sound proceeding from some invisible source was considered a heavenly voice, since the revelation on Sinai was given in that way in Deuteronomy 4:12: "Ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice". In this account, God reveals himself to man through his organs of hearing, not through those of sight. Even the prophet Ezekiel, who sees many visions, "heard a voice of one that spake" (Ezek 1:28); similarly, Elijah recognized God by a "still, small voice," and a voice addressed him (I Kings 19:12–13; compare Job 4:16); sometimes God's voice rang from the heights, from Jerusalem, from Zion (Ezek. 1:25; Jer 25:30; Joel 3:16–17; Amos 1:2, etc.); and God's voice was heard in the thunder and in the roar of the sea.[1]
Listening is a choice one has to make. We can choose to listen and then act upon that which is heard or we can listen but not really hear. It is a selective hearing loss of sorts.
After reading so many verses from old and new testament, notice that we MUST HEAR YHWH, creator heavenly Abba Father God's voice, If we can hear him and DO what he tells us, then we know him and he knows us.
If we just pray prayer requests to benefit ourselves or family, then that is asking God to align with us. We need to align ourselves with God's desires and will. So we must be able to hear him. If we don't, then we need to drop everything and pursue that first.
In the book written by Watchman Nee "The Release of the Spirit" he teaches how we are to "1st, break our soul down." You will know when this happens because the worldly desires disappear or become irrelevant. (I no longer desired a Dodge Viper or Challenger). My hunger and desire became doing whatever God has next for me.
2nd point in his book is aligning your broken soul with your inner Spirit and God's Holy spirit.
Picture your soul as your selfish little devil on your shoulder and your inner spirit as the angel on your shoulder.
That devil never goes away, but you need to crush it and control it and align it with the angel. We don't all become robot Jehovah witnesses when we crush our soul, our soul is what gives us "soul" or hot sauce, salt and pepper, flavor. Doing it while aligned with the Holy Spirit makes us taste good to others we come in contact with. If we are just selfish hotsauce by ourselves, we burn ourselves and others.

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature[d] a slave to the law of sin.
Again in Ephesians 3:14-19
14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every father in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Let's first be very honest with ourselves. If we still have strong earthly desires / wants, or if we can NOT hear God's voice, or if we don't have power through the Holy Spirit in us. Then we need to drop everything and pursue his voice, his will, his callings for our lives.
