Read all of Exodus 32
Notice: Re-read Verse 4 and 5, The calf is a representation of "the god that brought them out of Egypt" and "there will be a feast to Jehovah that took them out of Egypt"
Exodus 33: 4 And when the people heard this bad news, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments. 5 For the Lord had said to Moses, “Say to the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. I could come up into your midst in one moment and consume you. Now therefore, take off your ornaments, that I may know what to do to you.’ ” 6 So the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by Mount Horeb.
Important things to remember: They were worshipping YHWH, THE God of the Israelites that took them out of Egypt, but they were doing it in their own way, not the ways prescribed and taught by YHWH.
They were taught: No representations of YHWH, they made a Golden calf, They were told "No Adultery" but they were worshipping YHWH with wild sex parties with their head priest Aaron condoning it.
Please read link about YHWH's required feasts to understand the importance of celebrating his way and not ours.
BTW, This day that the Jews received the 10 commandments and Moses threw them down and broke them is Pentecost or feast of weeks which is also the same Pentecost feast celebrated in Acts 2 where 3,000 souls were added to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Now think about your use of the cross, does it represent Jesus? If it does, then is Jesus God? If Jesus is God, and the cross represents Jesus and you worship Jesus on Christmas. How is any of this different than a golden calf representing YHWH and celebrating YHWH in your own way? (Christmas is not in the Bible)
Mother Mary statues, and lucky sox in my opinion and I believe the Bible's opinion are the same thing, as idol worship, Catholics pray to a statue for things or good luck. It blocks and ruins your trust and relationship with YHWH. Just like sports kids and stars trusting their lucky sox or kissing their cross around their necks for good luck. They are trusting an object made by men instead of a relationship with their creator. Those things keep us separated from Him.
Read Ezekiel 13:17-20 These Women prophets were handing out good luck charms, not trusting in YHWH !
