Deuteronomy 4: 5-8 5 See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the Lord my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it. 6 Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about all these decrees and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” 7 What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him? 8 And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today?
17 You have wearied the Lord with your words. “How have we wearied him?” you ask. By saying, “All who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord, and he is pleased with them” or “Where is the God of justice?”
Malachi 3:
13 “You have spoken arrogantly against me,” says the Lord. “Yet you ask, ‘What have we said against you?’ 14 “You have said, ‘It is futile to serve God. What do we gain by carrying out his requirements and going about like mourners before the Lord Almighty? 15 But now we call the arrogant blessed. Certainly evildoers prosper, and even when they put God to the test, they get away with it.’” 16 Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name. 17 “On the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty, “they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him. 18 And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.
2 Timothy 2:14-26
14 Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”
20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use. 21 Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
Deuteronomy 10:12 And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
Matthew 5: 17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
We could fill this with verses about Grace, and verses about obeying the laws and commandments. Then we could divide in to dozens of denominations debating if we are saved by grace or by obeying or both and to which amount of each is needed.
Please read above (Matthew 5:17-20) That seems real clear that we are to obey every single part of the law. (The new testament didn't exist at the time Yeshua is speaking, he is talking about the Torah) HOWEVER, Notice if any one sets aside 1 of the commands they will be considered least in the kingdom......But they are still in the kingdom. So the question becomes: Do I want to just make it into the kingdom of heaven, or do I want to be "great" in the kingdom? (Just like 2 Timothy 2:20-21 says)
What helped me the most was a Jewish writing that said to think of the laws/commands as teachings. YHWH God does not benefit from us following his "teachings" only those that obey them and those around them benefit.
If I hand an 18 year old boy the state of Michigan construction code book and told him to build a house, what would happen? That book is bigger than the bible. The only way to understand and follow it correctly would be to start working with someone else in the trade and learning from them which means, doing it, reading about it. It takes many years. Now if that 18 year old is now 25 and goes out to the woods hidden away from the inspectors and builds his own house. .....Who benefits from following the code book? The inspectors gain / lose nothing. The 25 year old can follow the book and his little bit of experience and build it. If he does it wrong, he learns from it and corrects it. It's not like he is condemned to hell for not following the code book. However if he does such a poor job that the roof leaks, the heater doesn't work right, electrical catches on fire, then he is living in hell because of his sins of not following the code book.
I was mowing one day and I saw a car slowing down, I didn't recognize him, but then I noticed, my 11 month old had taken his walker right down our driveway out to the middle of the road. I ran and grabbed him and put him back in the yard. I then painted a white line on the driveway and instructed all 4 of my sons not to cross the white line. If they did, they got a spank. Now my sons are all older and some drive on that same road, the one that was in the walker, now crosses the road to get the mail. The teaching is "Don't cross this line" The law is "Don't get hit by a car" But sometimes we just have to follow the teachings (613 laws) until we understand how they help us to better "Love YHWH" and "Love others"
I tried this with Pork and shellfish, and fat, I just stopped because the Torah says so. Shellfish was easy because I never cared that much for it and there isn't much fresh in Michigan. Pork took almost 1 year and 4 months alone just to quit bacon. That was hard. Still working on quitting fat. So here is what I learned once I just obeyed. I have had diarrhea for as long as I can remember 20+ years. That was done about 4 months after I quit pork. If I eat any pork at all now, I get diarrhea again. Shellfish always tingled my mouth a little so I didn't care about losing that one. But this is the interesting thing. As I paid attention and searched out and learned more. YHWH is banning us from eating all bottom feeders, and gross things. He instructs us that Pigs are supposed to be an "abomination to us" . So it's supposed to gross us out. The same description is used for gay sex. Just think back to the 90's and earlier...gay sex was gross, now it is normal. My Grandpa used to say "if you knew what pigs eat, you wouldn't eat them". when he was my age. Shellfish and catfish(no scales) are bottom feeders. YHWH uses them to keep our water clean, if we eat them all, then the water gets nasty. (Read about clam water filtration) And it should be gross to us to eat things that eat trash. Why don't we eat rats or vultures? The thought of eating those is the same thought we should have when eating pigs or shellfish. Now you can argue, It's different now, the pigs are fed on farms and are much cleaner. You are right and that is between you and YHWH. But I would suggest reading the above verses again before your final decision. Keep in mind this is for your benefit, it is to make you holy, set apart from the rest of the population. This is to make you in to a gold object in the house instead of a wood bowl for common use. All of this applies the same way to the "no tattoos" teaching. We grew up with no tattoos because of the greatest generation following the Torah. But now look around, find someone without a tattoo. Be holy, be set apart! Other laws, dress like a man or dress like a woman. We can't tell today what many humans are. Be proud of the gender, and race that YHWH made you! Thank him for it. Honor the roll you have been given as a black man, or white woman. etc etc.
We should be seeking and studying these as teachings that make our life better and make our lives make more sense. But study it! The devout strict Jews will separate milk and meat. (separate fridges, eating separate etc.) There are only 2 verses in the Torah that say the same thing. "Don't cook a kid in its mother's milk". Again don't be gross! You don't take a nursing kid goat away from its mother and then use that mothers milk to boil and eat that kid goat. Or it can mean, don't eat an animal until it is done nursing. It has nothing to do with separating your dairy and meat in different fridges.
When reading all of this or any other source please go back to the bible and get confirmation. Example: Simply google search "bible verse boil goat mothers milk" You will get all kinds of opinions, read those but also you will get Exodus 23:19. Read that and all surrounding verses.
One last point. There are also 7 commanded feasts we are supposed to celebrate as part of the "law". We have done lots of study on this and here is the link: Jewish festivals? The exact same concept applies here, why wouldn't we want to celebrate? It benefits us and those around us.
We all know John 3:16, but read all of John 3, it is NOT just believing that gets you to heaven. There are things to DO. Vs. 3 "Must be born again", Vs 5. "Born of water and Spirit", Vs. 20-21 "Does evil, hates light.....done in the sight of God" (does, do, done, all action words) James 2: 14-26 Please read all of it....very convincing that: "faith (John 3:16) without works(John 3:20-21) Is dead."
2 Peter 2 Read all of it but especially verses 4-7 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell,[a] putting them in chains of darkness[b] to be held for judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless.
Even the Demons, un-clean spirits, devil believe in Yeshua, they even acknowledge he is the son of YHWH, so why aren't they saved? Matthew 8:28-34. 29 “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” The demons publicly proclaimed he is the son of God. How are you or I different than the demons? The demons just fulfilled the requirements of John 3:16, "believing in Jesus". (Side note, cast into pigs and killed, did Yeshua really abolish the law on eating pigs?) Luke 8: 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!” (same story but from Luke, even a greater praise for Yeshua! Do I / we publicly praise and acknowledge and testify about Yeshua as well as the legion of demons do?)
2 Peter 2:4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell,[a] putting them in chains of darkness[b] to be held for judgment; (Does it need to be spelled out any clearer? Angels become demons when they sin...Humans are no longer sons of YHWH when we sin) Believing in Yeshua means doing and obeying what he says, not just believing he existed.
Mark 1:23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us,Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” (Again, in church! I don't even cry out "Holy one of God") (I am still the equivalent of a demon or unclean spirit if I only profess that Yeshua is the holy one of YHWH!!)
If you roll your eyes at the Jews 613 laws. Try this link this is the new testament laws written in the same way.....new testament has 1050 laws: New testament laws
"We are not under the law" Let's look at this statement once said to me by a Jehovah witness and most friends of protestant faiths and Catholic faiths. What does it really mean?:
Yeshua never said anything like that, Only Apostle Paul in several of his letters preached about "not under the law"
If we obeyed every law perfect from birth, never 1 sin, we are still not worthy to be in YHWH's presence, we still need grace.
To understand this better, replace the words "law" and "commandments" with the word "teachings". If you are a child in life or in the faith, then it is just a law to be followed, "don't go in the street". When you are a young teen: " look both ways, go get the mail, be careful" When you are an adult: "Drive on the street everyday, the street is your friend. "
You must first become mature to handle Paul's teachings, then you will understand the law is your friend and you will become like David, writing Psalms of love about the law. If your goal is to please yourself, you will not want to be under the law or anything that restricts you. If your goal is to please your heavenly father then you will seek out more and more of his commandments / teachings because they bring so much value to your life.
Nothing we do by obeying the law or not obeying can add anything to our heavenly dad. It can only add value to our own lives, it is for our benefit!
Paul is not referring to YHWH'S law, he is referring to the law of sin. (controlling us).
"10 commandments VS. Yeshua"
Genesis: Yeshua:
No idols Worship the Lord your God and serve him only (when Satan tempted Jesus)
No other gods before me Mark12: 28-34
Do not misuse YHWH's name father in heaven holy is your name
Sabbath holy Yeshua taught in synagogue lots of times on sabbath (honoring it), he also restored its meaning by giving us the power to enjoy it and rest in it and honor it.
Honor Dad and Mom Mark 7:9-13 "Corban
Do not steal You know the commandments...do not steal
Do not lie You know commandments. ...Do not lie
Do not covet You know the commandments....do not covet
Do not commit adultery If you look at another woman lustfully guilty of adultery
Do not murder If you call your brother "fool" guilty of murder
NOTICE YESHUA CONFIRMS OR STRENGTHENS EACH COMMANDMENT, IN NO WAY DOES HE WEAKEN OR TAKE AWAY OR REMOVE THE LAW, OR "FULFILL" (He fulfills the law because of 7 feasts)
"Jeremiah 2nd covenant, new covenant"
Jeremiah 31:31-34 Read it very carefully and several times. YHWH says: "I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people." He will put the same law in our hearts, that was fulfilled with the giving of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. No where is the law taken away, it is made better and clearer to us.
Deuteronomy 11:18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,
Why, how does Jesus remove the need for animal sacrifices to forgive us for our sins?
Jesus repeats Deuteronomy LAW = KINGDOM OF HEAVEN???
Deuteronomy 30: 11 Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. 12 It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” 14 No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.
Luke 17: 20 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, [f]‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is [g]within you.”
Jeremiah 7: 8 “Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit. 9 Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know, 10 and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered to do all these abominations’? 11 Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it,” says the Lord.
Jeremiah 17: ...9....The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?10 “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”
