Controlling your avatar inside Multiverse is intuitive for those that are familiar with immersive and / or console gaming devices. However, many of our users are new to both VR and console gaming. If you have completed the tutorial, you will have learned most of the things you will ever need, to navigate and interact with objects, menus, and people inside Multiverse. We do, however, realise that this can be a lot to take in, so don't feel bad if you need a refresher course.
On this page we'll go over both the simple and more exciting controls you'll need to fully navigate and interact within Multiverse.
While your device's exact controls may vary slightly, the general layout will be similar between devices. On the left we have outlined the controller layout for the Oculus Quest.
Your Thumbsticks are used for simple forwards & backwards motion. Pushing your Thumbstick forwards will cause your avatar to take a step forwards. Pushing your Thumbstick backwards will cause your avatar to take a step backwards.
Advanced controls: Pushing both Thumbsticks on both your controllers either forward or backward at the same time will cause you to move at twice the speed.
WARNING: Pushing both Thumbsticks in the opposite direction at the same time will cause you step both forwards and backwards rapidly, and is not advised.
Your Thumbsticks are used for turning. Pushing your Thumbstick left will rotate your avatar left. Pushing your Thumbstick right will rotate your avatar right.
The (A) or (X) button can be used to teleport. Holding down (A) or (X) will cause a "Teleport Arc" to appear from the hand that is pressing the (A) or (X) button. While holding down the (A) or (X) button, you will now be able to move your hand to point the arc at the floor somewhere in front of you. If the teleport arc appears BLUE, then you will be able to let go of the (A) or (X) button and teleport to the destination marked.
Note: If the arc appears RED, this signifies that the chosen destination is not possible to teleport to.
The (GRIP) button can be used to grab objects. There are a multitude of objects that can be grabbed and manipulated inside Multiverse simply by reaching out and grabbing them with your hands using the (GRIP) button.
Advanced controls: Some objects can be grabbed and "stretched" and "shrunk" by using the (GRIP) button on both hands. Simply hold the object with both hands and pull them apart or push them together.
Some objects - eg buttons - can be interacted with, without pressing any buttons whatsoever. Simply reach out with your hand and push the button.
The (B) or (Y) button can be used to take a photo / screenshot. Holding down (B) or (Y) will cause a photo / screenshot to appear in front of you. This screenshot can be grabbed with the (GRIP) button, and passed around to other users.
Note: You can view all your photos / screenshots online on your linked Multiverse Account.
The (TRIGGER) button is how you interact or "click" something in Multiverse. Whether it's a button, a link bubble, or a Follow Player button, they can all be triggered by using the (TRIGGER) button.
WARNING: FOR ADVANCED VR USERS ONLY.
While we don't recommend this for any but the most robust VR users, it is possible to adjust your controls in the settings menu. Here you can toggle smooth motion, smooth turning and strafing.
