Shoe and Socks Drive (9/22-9/30, 1 hour for donations)
Mission Hospital is honoring Emilie Gamelin by hosting a shoe and socks drive. Please donate new socks or new/used shoes for this good cause! Donation bins can be found at the East Pavilion and West Pavilion Entrances at our Mission campus, and at the Main Lobby and Emergency Department at our Laguna Beach campus.
You will need to clock in under the Project shift labeled "Shoe and Socks Drive" and upload a picture of yourself with your donation. Please be in Health Scholar uniform when you drop off your donation! 1 project hour per scholar will be given for all donations.
Also in honor of Emelie Gamelin, the cafeteria will be celebrating the Table of The King by providing a complimentary meal of soup, a bread roll, and a cookie on Friday, 9/22 from 11am-10:30pm. Stop by to get a free meal before or after your shift!
More information for both the Sock and Shoes drive and the Table of the King celebration can be found in the attached flyers.

NEW INCENTIVE for Hand Hygiene Secret Shoppers!
Imaging and Leonard Cancer Institute (LCI) – Outpatient Endoscopy (Monday-Friday, 2 hour shifts)
Requirements: In order to participate in this project, you MUST have completed the hand hygiene training with the Infection Prevention team.
In an effort to enhance the educational experience while contributing to hand hygiene Leapfrog scores, our imaging and LCI teams have agreed to integrate shadowing opportunities for you all.
Email me at msnhpc1@copehealthscholars.org the month prior to open up 2-hour time frames for your shift. Please specify imaging or LCI in your request.
Hours:
Imaging – Monday-Friday, 8am-8pm
LCI – Monday-Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm
The day of your shift, stop by the Health Scholar office (if on the weekend/not regular office hours, stop by a department binder) to get 1-2 hand hygiene sheets.
Report to the unit you are assigned to and let them know you are there to shadow.
While shadowing, complete your hand hygiene observations as discretely as possible. If it’s easier, pull out the sheet from your pocket after the procedure (especially if in OR and sterile fields) and record any hand hygiene observations that occurred.
After your shift, thank the staff for giving you the chance to observe.
Before leaving the hospital, return to the Health Scholar office to drop off the observation sheets you completed. If no one is in, slip them under the 464A door.
We hope that you can observe some memorable procedures during your time there!
Possible procedures include:
Imaging:
Radiology
CT
MRI
Sonography
Nuclear Medicine
CAT scan
LCI:
EGDs
Colonoscopies
Manometry – assessing esophageal motility
This project is also available in other departments as 1+ hour flexible shifts Sunday-Saturday between 6:30am-10:30pm. You will move between different departments based on current priorities, so this is a great opportunity to explore the hospital and observe various departments. More info is listed below.
