Figurative Language Rap Battle
To practice with figurative language, we learned the Figurative Language Rap from Flocabulary. The students had 2 weeks to practice the song and add any choreography that they wanted. On the Friday of the 2nd week, all 4 fifth grade classes met up in the cafeteria to have a rap battle. The class who worked together, were fluent, and did the best won. We had Coach Kenner and Coach Wanda as guest judges. After it was all sang and done, Mrs. Perry's Homeroom WON!!

Escape From Plot Mountain
To review plot, the students completed a digital escape. They had to escape from Plot Mountain by unlocking 5 digital locks. They reviewed foreshadowing & flashbacks, plot structure, and mood & tone. The escape was challenging, but we still saw a lot of success!

Every year we do some sort of biography project to go over Literary Nonfiction. It's always fun to see who the students are interested in researching! This year we were crunched on time, but wanted to make sure that students had the opportunity to create a visual representation of their person, and to actually present. Our solution, recorded augmented reality presentations. Check out the following slides. The students are working on their Gratitude Journals when they have free time. The Gratitude Journal coincides with my homeroom sorting into Houses and working on teamwork. There are 10 questions total, and the students will answer one question each day. They may add a picture or visual to help reinforce their point.

Reading Stations
We do a lot of stations in our reading class. Stations are a great way for students to review skills. I like to spiral our skills all year long, adding new skills as we learn then. We typically do 4 stations a week. I try to mix up the stations with digital and traditional activities. Click on the buttons below to check out some of our digital stations.
For Valentine's Day we celebrated with a fun Valentine's Day Breakout! We covered information and procedural text. This breakout was a digital and hands on experience. Since this breakout was more challenging, students started out in groups. It took teamwork to really breakout and escape Cupid!
