‘Twas the age of the fossils, and deep in the ground,
The remains of old creatures were waiting to be found.
The bones were all buried in layers of earth,
Preserving the secrets of ancient life's birth.
The dinosaurs rested, in slumber so deep,
While the seashells and trilobites silently sleep.
Their shapes turned to stone, through millennia passed,
A glimpse of the world, from a time far surpassed.
When out in the field, there arose such a clatter,
The paleontologists knew something mattered!
With shovels and brushes, they worked day and night,
Unearthing these treasures, with joy and delight.
Tyrannosaurs, mammoths, and fish from the sea,
A grand prehistoric menagerie!
With each find they marveled, "How old could it be?"
Millions of years, a rich history!
So now we all gather, to learn and explore,
These fossils of creatures we don’t see anymore.
Their stories remind us, through ages they thrived,
And in every fossil, the past is revived.
'Twas the age of the Earth, and all through the land,
Rocks were transforming, by nature’s own hand.
Igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic too,
The rock cycle's magic, we’ll now journey through.
From deep molten magma, the igneous flows,
Cooling to granite, or basalt that glows.
Hardened and strong, it sits firm in the crust,
But the cycle continues, as it surely must.
Erosion begins, with wind, rain, and time,
Breaking down mountains, grain by grain, line by line.
The fragments are carried, to rivers and seas,
Where sediment layers, settle with ease.
Over the years, with pressure and weight,
Sedimentary rocks begin to create.
Limestone and sandstone, in layers they stack,
Holding the history of life’s ancient track.
But the cycle’s not over, there's more to unfold,
Heat and pressure transform rocks that are old.
Metamorphic rocks, like marble and slate,
Change their appearance and alter their state.
Yet nothing is final, for rocks change again,
Melted by magma deep within the Earth's vein.
And up through a volcano, they erupt in a blast,
Returning to igneous, the cycle's so vast!
So round and around, the rock cycle goes,
How it will change, nobody knows.
But through all the stages, from start to the end,
The rocks of the Earth are nature’s best friend!
'Twas millions of years ago, deep in the past,
When creatures and plants lived, but life didn’t last.
They roamed and they swam, in skies and in seas,
From giant T-Rex to the smallest of trees.
When these beings perished, their bodies lay still,
Covered by layers of dirt, sand, and silt.
Time turned them to fossils, in rock they were bound,
Waiting for curious hands to be found.
The bones of great beasts, now hardened like stone,
Give us a glimpse of a world long unknown.
Imprints of ferns, or a fish once alive,
All tell the tale of how life did survive.
Sediment covered them, year after year,
Pressing them tightly as the layers grew near.
Minerals replaced all the bones they possessed,
Turning them solid, their forms were compressed.
Some fossils are amber, trapping bugs in their glow,
Preserved in a resin from trees long ago.
Others are footprints, left deep in the clay,
A snapshot of creatures that once walked our way.
Now scientists dig them from mountains and sand,
Studying fossils to better understand,
How creatures evolved, and how they grew tall,
The mysteries of life—they tell us it all.
So next time you see a fossilized bone,
Remember the journey it made all alone.
From a living, breathing being of Earth’s ancient days,
To a fossil that teaches in so many ways!
