Energy can be transferred from one location to another or can be transformed from one form to another. Energy transfers from hot objects to cold objects as heat, resulting in a temperature change. Electric circuits require a complete loop of conducting materials through which an electrical energy can be transferred. Electrical energy in circuits can be transformed to other forms of energy, including light, heat, sound, and motion. Electricity and magnetism are closely related.

Static Electricity Experiment
Use a balloon to demonstrate static electricity. Inflate the balloon, rub it on your hair or a wool sweater, and then bring it close to a wall or small pieces of paper to see how it attracts them.
Circuit Drawing Challenge
Provide students with paper and colored pencils. Ask them to draw a simple circuit diagram that includes a battery, a switch, and a light bulb, labeling each part.
Electricity Vocabulary Flashcards
Create flashcards with electricity-related terms (e.g., circuit, conductor, insulator). Shuffle and have students quickly match the terms with their definitions.
Energy Source Brainstorm
In a minute, have students brainstorm and list different sources of electricity (e.g., solar, wind, hydro). After they list, discuss them briefly.
Conductors vs. Insulators Test
Provide students with various materials (e.g., paper, metal, plastic). Let them predict which will conduct electricity and then test using a simple circuit (if possible).
Would you rather power your home with solar energy or wind energy?
Would you rather be able to create electricity from your own body or have the power to turn off all the lights in your city with a snap of your fingers?
Would you rather explore the world of electricity in the past or in the future?
Deep Question: How do you think the discovery of electricity changed the way people live and interact with each other?
Applied Scenario-Based Question: If you were in the City of Ember and the power went out, what steps would you take to find a solution for restoring electricity?
Thought Experiment: Imagine if electricity never existed. How would daily life be different for you and your family?
