Purpose
Phase 2 focuses on identifying and understanding the core beliefs shaping perception, emotion, and behavior. Its purpose is to reveal the internal narratives that organize experience beneath surface reactions.
Psychological function
This phase supports cognitive-emotional integration by linking emotional reactions to underlying belief structures. It allows unconscious assumptions to become conscious, flexible, and examinable. Understanding replaces confusion and internal conflict.
Nervous system framing
Belief exploration is paced carefully to avoid cognitive overwhelm or emotional flooding. Regulation practices ensure insight unfolds within safety and grounding. This maintains nervous system stability while expanding understanding.
Shadow focus
Focus is placed on unconscious beliefs related to safety, worth, identity, power, attachment, and belonging. These beliefs are approached as protective constructions rather than objective truth. Shadow emerges as hidden meaning rather than threat.
Practical outcomes
Clients gain insight into why they think, feel, and react the way they do. Emotional patterns become understandable rather than mysterious. This increases self-compassion, clarity, and psychological flexibility.
