I have been attending SLCC intermittently since Fall semester of 2019 pursuing a Writing Studies Associates of Science while working full-time. My first semester at SLCC shaped my life drastically because I was introduced to Volunteers of America--an organization I have worked for for over five years now--because of an optional service-learning project. This led me to participate in SLCC's Civically Engaged Scholars Program, combining my work, talents, and passions to make a positive impact on our community. I am currently employed as the Hiring and Special Projects Coordinator at Geraldine E. King Women's Resource Center downtown.
The things that give my life meaning outside of my work are art, literature, music, and social activism. I have had several jobs within the helping professions which allowed me to work with a diverse spectrum of people, from newborns to teenagers, special needs individuals, the elderly, and people experiencing homelessness, struggles with mental health and substance use disorders. My passion for people and all art forms has led me down the path of Humanities and I plan to transfer to the University of Utah to get a bachelor's in Writing Studies and Rhetoric with a minor in Cultural Studies. Even more long term, I hope to teach English abroad and publish a collection of poetry of my own one day.
