This was one of the most interesting semester projects I had the opportunity to do during my time at SLCC, and it was a great way to end my time at the college. I feel this assignment taught me the invaluable skill of gathering objective data and composing an analysis from a scientific lens. The majority of my coursework at SLCC has been more rooted in social sciences, and the tone I've often taken in previous writings leaned more into personal narrative. This assignment pushed me out of my comfort zone by requiring me to use a different rhetorical approach--a skill that is a key component of my major, writing studies. I was still able to select a topic that related to activism through the preservation efforts of the Great Salt Lake, which engaged me on a deeper level and gave me the necessary fuel to tackle the subject I was most apprehensive about.
