Participating in this year's UP3RC conference was another incredible opportunity I wouldn't have had without joining the Honors Program at SLCC. It was because of the Honors Humanities class I took this semester that I was motivated to conduct this research and put together the presentation. I was thrilled to find a fellow classmate that was interested in the same topic and was willing to collaborate. Aydan helped immensely with the final verbal presentation and was there to give support and suggestions throughout the semester as I wrote interview questions, transcribed interviews, and finalized the research paper below. I had a ton of fun putting together the visuals and layout of the poster presentation and we had a running joke that it was the most aesthetically pleasing poster in the Honor's Lounge. More than anything however, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to conduct academic research about a topic that was so near and dear to my heart, especially given the current local, national, and international political climate. I was able to connect with other student protestors on campus and am happy to say that I made several amazing friends through conducting my research. I can't say enough good things about the conference and the ways in which it helped me to grow as a scholar and citizen.
