For this assignment, I created an online multiple-choice quiz using Google Forms to assess students’ knowledge of U.S. state capitals. The purpose of this quiz is to give students an engaging way to review and strengthen their understanding of American geography. Learning state capitals is an important part of developing a strong foundation in social studies, and this quiz provides a structured and interactive method for practicing that information.
The quiz consists entirely of multiple-choice questions. Each question presents the name of a state, followed by four possible capital cities as answer choices. Students must select the correct capital from the given options. Multiple-choice format was chosen because it allows for quick responses, straightforward grading, and immediate feedback. This format also helps students develop recognition skills, which are a key part of early memorization and geographic literacy.
Google Forms was an ideal tool for this quiz because of its accessibility, ease of use, and ability to automatically grade submissions. I set the form to provide instant feedback once the quiz is submitted, showing students which answers were correct and where they made mistakes. I also enabled settings like shuffling question order to ensure each student gets a slightly different version, making the quiz more challenging and helping to prevent sharing of answers.
To make the quiz user-friendly, I kept the layout simple, used clear fonts, and avoided any distracting images or extra content. Students can complete the quiz from any device, including computers, tablets, or smartphones. The quiz is self-paced, but a suggested time limit encourages students to think quickly without rushing.
This project helped me understand the importance of designing digital assessments that are clear, aligned to learning goals, and accessible for all students. Using Google Forms for an online quiz also taught me how technology can simplify grading and provide immediate, meaningful feedback to support student learning.
