September Newsletter

Welcome to the IB Student Council Newsletter! We will be publishing a newsletter here on our IBSC website at the end of every month to reflect on our IBSC work, events, student spotlights, and give you sneak peeks of what is to come. Hopefully, these newsletters will keep you up to date with IB!

Elections

September started with our IBSC elections! Thank you to everyone who has offered leadership this year on the council. You can check out the “Officer” tab on our website to see our team and their contact information! Our full council had an introductory meeting, and our officers have had three meetings so far. Our leadership team is already hard at work for our IB community, and we thank you for your support!

Student Spotlight

Every month we ask our grade level representatives to choose one student from each grade that contributes to the community inside or outside of school, and demonstrates IB learner profile traits. Our spotlight students this month are Madison Fath, 12th grade; Connor Bingham, 11th grade; Delaney Geckle-Clark, 10th grade; and Ella Searcy, 9th grade! Fath is an awesome student in the classroom and has been working really hard on basketball. Bingham is great at keeping the class in a light mood and offers incredible input in class discussions. Clark is always first to volunteer and speak up in class, and encourages peers to do the same. Searcy is working super hard on the soccer team and striving in the classroom.

IBPC Luau

On September 17th, the IB Parents Council hosted our first event of the year- a virtual Luau! This event featured Hawaiian hula dancers, firewalkers and trivia. Mr. Spewak and his 3 kids surprised everyone with some amazing entertainment at the end! The purpose of the event was to give IB parents and students an opportunity to meet and greet each other. The parents also had a chance to learn more about the IB Parents Council and how they support the program. You can learn more about the IBPC on their website at bit.ly/MidloIBPC, and learn more about joining the IBPC at bit.ly/JoinIBPC. Be on the lookout for more information about their upcoming events: Game Night & Membership Contest happening through October 15th, and IB:Secrets Revealed on October 22nd.

Student Vlogs

This year, at least while we are virtual, we are starting student vlogs for a fun way for students to stay connected. For September, the IBSC submitted vlog clips to set an example for students in the future. The vlog will be released on Friday, October 2nd at Midlo IBSC on Youtube!

In Closing

This month has definitely been busy! We hope everyone has had a good start to the school year. Feel free to reach out to your IBSC if you have any questions or concerns. We are here for you!

Thank you,

IB Student Council
