Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

This month the IBSC challenged our peers and teachers to wear their best pink every Wednesday to help raise awareness for breast cancer. If they sent in pictures of themselves in pink, we featured them on our social media platforms! Additionally, our historian, Lisa Witherow, hosted an Instagram livestream teaching the viewers how to make a breast cancer awareness ribbon. If you want to read more about the livestream, Midlo Scoop wrote an article about it! Thank you to everyone who participated in raising awareness for this important cause.

IBPC

Congratulations to the senior class for winning the IBPC membership contest! The seniors have over 50% participation. As a prize from the IBPC, the seniors have won a virtual game night, which will take place in November. However, all families can still join the IBPC through their website.

Thank you to everyone who came to the IB: Secrets Revealed event this month! This virtual event included presentations by IBPC President, Annette Ruzicka; IB Coordinator, Mr. Spewak; IB Counselor, Mrs. Speller; and Principal, Dr. Abel. Information regarding the IB course pathway, CAS, and the pressing question: What is IB? If you were unable to attend, no worries! Here is a link to the presentation from the night. For more information about the night, here is a message from the IBPC.

Student Spotlights

This month has been crazy busy, but our IB teachers and students are handling it like champs! Four of our amazing students were chosen for October Student Spotlight for their exemplary work that stood out. Senior Spotlight, Matthew Solomon, balances his schoolwork, participates on the baseball team, and makes time for his favorite hobby, fishing. Joshua Williams offers excellent insight during his junior class discussion and seminars, he’s dedicated to playing saxophone and participates in the school’s marching band. Patterson Summers spends his time volunteering at SwimRVA and keeping his grades in great shape, and he was nominated as Sophomore Class President. Reese Barrett, our freshman Spotlight, balances two sports and a job, while also keeping up with school work and positively participating in class discussions.

Student Vlog

October’s Student Vlog was open to all IB students for submissions! Thank you to everyone who participated, and you can go check out the new vlog on our Youtube channel. November’s vlog will also be open to all students. Film short videos of what you’re doing to stay busy, active, and sane during virtual or hybrid learning, and send them to midloibsc@gmail.com to be featured in the next one.

Tutoring

Are you an underclassman in IB currently taking AP Human Geography or AP World History and needing a little help? Are you an upperclassman in IB that took one, or both, of those classes and willing to tutor an underclassman in need? Sign up to be a tutor or tutoree with the link bit.ly/IBTutoring. Tutors will receive CAS hours for their time spent tutoring. IBSC will pair students together, but pairs will be responsible for scheduling their own meeting times.
