Student Spotlights

As always, we are recognizing four outstanding students who have been nominated by their peers for their work in and out of the classroom, as well as their demonstration of the IB Learner Profile traits. This month, we are recognizing Michael Glover, Anya Varkey, Rose Garza, and Ava Reese. Glover was nominated for his well roundedness, and ability to balance both the responsibilities of an IB senior, and his job. Varkey shows amazing community involvement through her participation on Midlo’s dance team, and her church leadership committee. Garza goes above and beyond in the classroom, as well as her extracurriculars. Recently, she reached VHSL Super Regionals for Public Forum in Speech and Debate, as well as participating in fencing at the Richmond Fencing Club. Reese was nominated based on her amazing classroom participation and enthusiasm. Thank you to these spotlights, and all of our IB students for their perseverance and determination during concurrent learning!

Connor's Heroes Drive

In the first week of March, IBSC hosted our second supply drive for the year. IB Sophomore Grade Representative, Noelia McCaffery, hosted an Instagram takeover. Everyday she posted videos raising awareness regarding childhood cancer, and the organization, Connor’s Heroes. It is a Richmond based organization that serves families, who are affected by childhood cancer, throughout the central Virginia area. Noelia promoted Amazon Wishlists that help provide items for Family Fun Packs, which are given to families throughout the year, and contain items such as board games or movie snacks. These videos are saved in an Instagram Highlight, if you would like to go back and watch them. Thank you to Noelia for doing such an outstanding job, and thank you to everyone who donated!

International Festival

Sign ups for International Festival are still available! If you would like to perform or participate in the fashion show, please fill out the following forms: bit.ly/IFPerformances21 bit.ly/IFFashion21 by April 5th. While the festival is virtual this year, we would love to showcase the diversity and talent in our community!

Thank you to everyone who submitted a recipe for our International Cookbook! These will eventually be for sale through donation as we approach International Festival. Stay tuned for more updates!

Save the date for April 22nd to see all the performances, fashion show, cultural booths, and more come together in a virtual environment! We hope to see you there!

Panda Express Spirit Night

On March 31st, Midlo IB had a spirit night at Panda Express! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us. Be on the lookout for the next spirit night!

Grade Level Events

Niral and Abby have started their own Media Club for IB Juniors who are interested in discussing various forms of media such as albums, books, movies, and more! They meet every other Thursday. If you would like more information, or would like to sign up to lead a meeting, feel free to reach out to them!

In Closing

Once again, we appreciate everyone’s patience and determination as we transitioned into concurrent learning. We hope you are all staying optimistic and focusing on the positives, but we understand that there may be frustrations. If you have an issue you would like to discuss with us, or have us advocate for you, please email us at midloibsc@gmail.com or fill out the form at bit.ly/IBSCsuggestions IB Student Council is here for you, and we wish you a relaxing and safe Spring Break!
