Description-
The artifact in discussion is my flip project created in my professional portfolio. This flip project contains a video covering the basic human body parts and systems. This covers the muscular, skeletal, circulatory, respiratory, and nervous systems. It was created through the instructors perspective but designed for the student learning perspective. It is important that the students are familiar with the body systems they interact with everyday. This flip project was created in March of 2020 and is open to the public on the technology items page of my portfolio.
Making the Connection-
The importance of this artifact is that it gives the students a view of a person's human body systems. This flip project displays the different parts of each system as well as explaining the function of each. Students use all different body systems everyday as they progress through the day and this artifact explains how each one works. The way this artifact was created portrays the information to the students using audio and video, which can accommodate for different student needs. This is directly related to performance indicator 5M which states, “The competent teacher uses strategies and techniques for facilitating meaningful inclusion of individuals with a range of abilities and experiences”. The flip project also displays how these systems operate. The students are learning about these systems while they’re growing, which means they are experiencing these systems at work while being taught them. This lets me teach in an alternative way using the students personal experiences to further explain the knowledge. This goes along with performance indicator 5I which states, “The competent teacher uses multiple teaching strategies, including adjusted pacing and flexible grouping, to engage students in active learning opportunities that promote the development of critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and performance capabilities ”. Working towards being a physical education teacher, I will be able to relate these indicators to my everyday lessons so that the students get a full understanding of the systems when in action.
Learning-
This project has opened my eyes to the type of versatile educator I will need to be. It has helped me grow as a future professional and created ideas that I will incorporate into my own class. This learning has helped me grow by realizing we are helping to teach everyday skills as well as life-long skills. My flip project has given me ideas on other types of assignments I can create that will be effective and applied on a personal level. I now have a better understanding of how to teach and relate to the students by getting their attention. I know that a lot can happen from now until then but i’m ready to make and be the change.
Description-
This artifact is a lesson plan for 6th grade reading class. It contains an activity get students to connect the a small passage to an actual experience in their lives. This artifact also has them creates positive quote for a friend or family. It was created during in October of 2020 for my middle grades literacy class.
Connection-
The importance of this artifact is to show students there are more ways to learn other than the teacher talking to the class. This lesson plan shows evidence of understanding of the standard by allowing the students to learn in a different manner. This shows that I am able to switch my teaching style so that it is the most efficient for my students. The artifact aligns with knowledge indicator 5D because it, "understands disciplinary and interdisciplinary instructional approaches and how they relate to life and career experiences".
Learned- I learned how to get the students to be able to think and create using their own skills. It is a great feeling watching them succeed and realizing it. This learning will only help my progression as a teacher because it adds another style of instruction to my tool belt.
