Description-
This artifact is an email that was sent to a parent half-way into the 2nd semester of class. It contains a message about a student and his performance in class. It was produced in February of 2022. It was produced to make a parent aware of their students progress and what I might do better to create a successful learning environment.
Connection-
The importance of this artifact is to show that it is our job as teachers to create the learning environment that works for all students. This email shows evidence of understanding the standard because I am taking the initiative to reach out and get some advice from a parent so that I can create a learning environment that my students will thrive in. It is crucial that I understand what is going on in this students world as well as what I can adjust to make it beneficial for both of us. Performance indicator 4K states the competent teacher, "uses strategies to create a smoothly functioning learning community in which students assume responsibility for themselves and one another, participate in decision-making, work collaboratively and independently, use appropriate technology, and engage in purposeful learning activities". This email was written after I had gotten feedback from the student first.
Learned-
I learned that there are many different resources available to us, in and out of the classroom. This has helped me to break the ice on uncomfortable situations so that it will benefit my students and the learning environment. This artifact connects to my future classroom by giving me insight to ask for help when needed. The parents know their child the best so they will have some great advice to give. It's significant to me because I am a parent now and I would appreciate the teacher reaching out to give updates as well as asking fo suggestions.
Description-
This a video of our learning environment for outdoor education. It contains the layout of the space as well as myself modeling out to wear the gear properly. It was produced at the end of April of 2022. This video artifact was created to give the students encouragement to try new things in outdoor education.
Connection-
The importance of this artifact is to display our outdoor learning environment as well as modeling how the protective gears should be worn. This shows evidence of understanding of the standard because the students are in a setting that aligns with the unit they're learning. This environment enhances how the students learn because they are having a real-life experience. This video artifact displays how this learning environment, "organizes, allocates, and manages time, materials, technology, and physical space to provide active and equitable engagement of students in productive learning activities".
Learned-
I learned how much more engaged the students can be when they get put in a different learning environment. This is important to me development as a teacher because I will be looking for ways to incorporate a new learning environment for specific units and lessons. I will utilize my resources to enhance student learning by taking the students outside or to a new educational setting. This artifact is significant to me because I was able to display how our learning environment can be used to the fullest. Modeling for the students is a strong way to get them more engaged and participating.
