Our main objectives of our virtual program were to bring together students from PRT 152 and PRT 358 to let the residents of Magnolia Glen know that we are thinking of them and trying to bring some encouragement to their lives
We completely achieved this goal by gathering tons of footage from the participants in the classes and even received other support from some of the competitive teams at NCSU.
People objectives
We strived to receive videos from participants in the PRT 358 and 152 courses as well as receiving letters from local middle school students and an interactive puzzle with a hidden message.
We achieved these goals by creating short motivational videos from the students, the middle schoolers have written letters to the residents that will be dropped off at the facility, and the interactive puzzle will be shown on the announcements over the course of a month in a fun and engaging format.
Staff
The members of this SL group all coordinated their efforts with Sherron Leigh and Sonya Drew of Magnolia Glen to provide these wonderful programs for the residents.
Activities
Our activities were all designed to be delivered in a safe format to keep their spirits lifted during a time when they can't have much contact with the outside world.
Most of our activities are being broadcasted onto the local network of Magnolia Glen
Budget
We did not have need for a budget since our programs were done online or at home.
Equipment
All of the equipment needed were things that could be found at home.
Scheduling
Our videos and and puzzles will go live to the residents on April 29th. We planned on the 22nd, but we were still receiving video submissions so we moved the deadline back a week.
This is partly so we can run the videos and the puzzles throughout the entire month of May.
Safety
There are still no safety risks from our programs since they are online or available to all.
Evaluation
Once our event goes live, we will check in with Sonya and Sherron to see how the participants are enjoying the programs.
Our participant objectives are immeasurable at this time since our programs have not arrived at the facility. But, on the week of May the 4th, we will evaluate our programs once Sherron and Sonya have been able to see how the participants are enjoying our programs.
Program Planning:
Our SL group consisted of six members from different walks of life. After being together for a week we started to learn each others strengths and weaknesses and started to become more of friends instead of group members. By having this openness with the entire team, we were able to plan programs that fitted all of our unique skill sets. We all like to procrastinate some, but at the same time, we held each other accountable like a real team.
Distribution:
This was the tricky part, earlier in the semester we had planned on having an Easter egg hunt and a couple of travel themed programs revolving around food and history. However, with the introduction of COVID-19 to the world, we had to change everything. We could no longer go and interact and engage with the residents of Magnolia Glen and it broke our hearts. That is why we kept on pushing to get them our message of "We love you and stay safe". Sherron and Sonya have been instrumental in the distribution of these activities and videos because they helped us and suggested a couple of media delivery options based on the technology they have at Magnolia Glen. Overall, our delivery of the content will go smoothly as we have formatted our activities for easy, streamable access.
Virtual tours of historic landmarks and museums
Virtual fitness classes
Online lectures and artistic activities
The virtual tours would be beneficial for our target market, the senior residents, because they like to be mental stimulated. The tours would give them a chance to revisit historical landmarks that they have been to before or the opportunity to see or learn something new. The virtual fitness classes could be a great way for the residents to stay active while being confined in their rooms. Sherron and Sonya placed a large emphasis on how much the residents of Magnolia Glen love to learn. We believe that all of the residents would benefit largely from online lessons that keep them mentally stimulated. Magnolia Glen should consider implementing these programs in the future to further entertain and engage the residents.
