On March 27, 2020 Governor Roy Cooper announced a Stay at Home Order for all North Carolina residents in response to the rapid spread of Covid-19. Magnolia Glen had to responded quickly, due to the demographic of it's residences and the danger the virus poses for their community. Magnolia Glen had to allow no visitors to enter the community. Employees must get their temperature taken at the beginning and end of their shift. They must also be wearing proper PPE, which includes non-medical masks and gloves. Residences are allowed to leave their rooms and walk around the community, but they can not congregate with other residents. Meals are now being delivered to residence's room in order to prevent large groups in the dinning room. Overall Magnolia Glen has conducted all the measures to keep it's residents and staff safe. While still encouraging a fun and supportive enlivenment for everyone.
The virtual program our service learning group came up was an inspirational video and a puzzle challenge for the residents. The inspirational video will be a collection of positive video clips from PRT 152 and 358. In the video clips students will introduce themselves and do something silly. This could include, trying to juggle, dunking a basketball, or telling a joke. The completed video will then be broadcasted across the residents television sets.
The puzzle challenge will provide residents with a daily brain teaser. Each day a different puzzle will be broadcasted on the residents television sets, and at the end of the day the answer will appear. This gives residents something to look forward to each day. An example of the puzzle challenge could be a riddle or a cross word puzzle. the puzzle challenge will also keep their minds active and engaged.
