Speaking Out

Before starting this quest first make sure that you have completed the Feedback Mechanisms quest.

Now that you have arrived safely in London and have checked into your hotel, it is time to venture out to Hyde Park.

Before doing so, watch the video “Speaking Out” from the comfort of your hotel to gain insights about the importance of expressing your opinions and gaining confidence in public speaking situations.

For this quest, imagine what you would say once you arrive at Speakers’ Corner:

  • What specific topic or idea might you raise?

  • Is your topic controversial? If so, how will you introduce it?

  • Will this particular issue create a debate among participants?

  • Will you use words, image, music, posters, or some other creative expression to articulate your ideas?

  • How will the audience at Hyde Park respond to your ideas?

  • How might your comments at Speakers’ Corner be similar to or different from how you might express your ideas online?

After thinking through these questions, write a paragraph based on what you plan on saying or doing at Speakers’ Corner. Consider this paragraph a set of talking points for your public speaking at Hyde Park. This is the paragraph that you will refer to when you stand up at Speakers’ Corner and express your ideas.

If you are nervous about this speaking engagement, review the video at the first part of this quest to help prepare! Refer to some of the tips provided in the video to help you gain confidence about expressing your ideas.

Good luck! We look forward to your talk!
