Information Use

This challenge will focus on the importance of understanding information use. As evidence of successful completion of this quest, you will apply a Creative Commons license to an original work, and describe the level of openness in that work.

So far, you have learned about the legal implications of remixing, and the ethical implications of sharing. Now it is your turn to put it all together. First review two resources you’ve already used:

To delve deeper into the ethics of sharing information read the open access article “Remix Ethics” by writer and theorist Vito Campanelli.

In the intellectual property quest, you created an original work, and then to that creation you applied a license. For this challenge, you start with what you created in that step, or you can create another piece. Then you will either create or find yet another resource to mix with this first piece. You should remember all that you have learned about copyright, ethics, access, sharing, and, of course, remixing. You will then properly license this new remixed creation, and discuss the ethical considerations of the remix, the license, how and why it can or cannot be shared.

  3. What license did you apply to this new remixed creation? (e.g. CC-BY, full copyright, public domain, etc.)

  4. Discuss the ethical considerations of the remix, the license, how and why it can or cannot be shared.
