The silent place within me
is in tumult. The water churns
and roars. I cannot stay afloat.
As in the cavern of a great ear
that hears too much, a jumble of sounds
bounce and echo. I can distinguish nothing.
Which is the voice I should follow?
I can not make it out.
Where is the pool where I used to float,
supported by love,
bathed in light,
drinking in God through every pore?
Somewhere in the depths beyond the chaos,
I know you still hold me. You surround me
with your presence—
you are here with me always.
If only I could dive
that far down.
O let me dip even a toe
into that clear, refreshing pool,
touch the hem of your robe,
feel the life-giving spark of my creator.
Only say the word
and I shall be healed.
