I would like that Sarah and I have our ashes scattered or interred in the ground of the courtyard of St. Mark's on the Campus Episcopal Church in Lincoln, NE, where we were married in 1986, and near which I lived much of my life since 1970.
I would like to have that courtyard have the status of a graveyard, much like many churches here and most churches in Europe, so that the ground can be protected by law as a sacred site and not subject to seizure by eminent domain, which I know UNL has its heart set on. In fact, I would like it if the entire church could be protected in this manner, if it is not already.
This church has been the center of a neighborhood for as long as I have known it, and I have been trying to champion it as that for the future. It holds the memories of many wonderful people who are worth remembering, both in the church and in the non-church residential portions of the neighbor hood, much of it theatre students: people like Dr. Christopher (Chris) Stasheff (res), Dr. Richard (Dick) Boohar (SMOC), Rev. Larry Doerr (UMHE), Rev. Don Hanway (SMOC), Dr Joseph B. Baldwin (SMOC), Rev. Mel Leutchens (UMC), Rev. Duane Hutchinson (Umeth), Dr. Charles P. Olander (stu/res), Stephen (Steve) Gaines (stu/res), Harley Jane Kozak (stud/actress/author), Paul Baker (stu/res), Donavon Dietz (stu/res), Bob Hall (stu/res), William (Bill) Szymanski (stu/res), Susie Baer Collins (st/res), Cynthia Murphy Lang (stu/res), Linda Endres (stu/res), Annie Holman (stu/res), Ilze Machers (stu/res), Elaine (Warren) Flaugher (stu/res) … etc.
