Committee Hearings Chairman

Majority Committee Chairman:

Appointed by the Rules Committee
Must be an independent thinker, and possess strong leadership, organization, and communication skills- which are all needed to moderate emotional debates that will take place during Committee Hearings
Studies RRO and parliamentary procedure
Must be able to analyze all the bills assigned to his/her committee in the context of the political spectrum
Promotes party philosophy before and during Committee Hearings
Moderates the Committee Hearing debate for all but one of the bills in his/her committee
Appoints Committee Clerk, Secretary, and Parliamentarian and schedules meetings with these members
Determines the order and debate time for bills are heard in their committee
Provides the teachers with vote results and committee materials
Participates in organizational meetings with the floor leader during Advisory prior to Full Session
Works as an assistant whip for the Majority Floor Leader during preparation of Full Session (see Assistant Whip description below)
Records votes of their committee during Full Session
