Bill Writing

Students will join a Final Issue Group (FIG) that is tasked with addressing a problem that exists at the state or national level.

The bill writing process includes individual and group assignments that are designed to help each FIG develop a detailed solution to this problem.

Each FIG will present their bill to the legislative body during Committee Hearings and possibly on the floor of Full Session.

Phase 1 - Brainstorm and conduct initial research

We begin this process with your Issue Group brainstorming the political, social, and economic components of your problem. We will also conduct initial research and create a list of relevant sources.

Your bill will finally begin to take shape at the conclusion of these three assignments. You and your FIG members will also begin to notice that you have become experts in your topic from the work you have put in so far.
