Okay, so dare to disappoint. We've read chapters, one through nine. And I wanted to tell you what happens in chapters, one through nine, Um, Dare disappoint, is an autobiographical story about osgay samansi. She's writing about her own life. Um, In chapter one.
On page. Um, we see osgay. As a Um, as a kid who hasn't gone to school yet, she really really wants to go to school. But she hasn't and she's kind of like attracted to school. Her sister has gone to school and her sister. Um, it's kind of making her jealous.
Um, One day she sent out to get milk by her mom and instead of going to the store, she goes to school and hangs out with her sister, her mom thinks that she's dead or something this when this happens. And that's kind of the first thing that we get about her.
Uh, osgay really wants to learn. Then we get to chapter two, which starts on page 12, which is titled first grade teacher. So she finally gets into school. She starts wearing the uniform and she's obsessed with everything about school. I think mostly because it's new and she hasn't had anything new in her life.
Um, she loves the book, she loves the lunches, she loves her teacher, and then she loves her teacher so much that she like, gives her a kiss. Uh, Which I think is starting to indicate that, like, she Doesn't, there's like no difference to her between her parents and her teacher, they're like the same to her.
Um, then we get to chapter three in chapter three. We learn a lot more about turkey. Uh, turkey is undergoing some changes turkey had its own culture or actually turkey is a bunch of different places that have been combined. And they had like a unique culture, they're getting rid of that unique culture.
Um, because They want to have a western culture, they want to dress like Americans or europeans. Um, And her teacher tells her this, the next thing that's interesting about Turkish culture is that everyone is obsessed with this man named Ataturk who brought all of the countries together. Um, to create turkey and he's kind of worshiped like a God, his picture is everywhere.
Students know his name, um, students, uh, like swear Oaths to him and this affects osgay, because osgay starts to talk to paintings pretending that they are real. Um, Okay, so that happens then chapter four to die for uh, we get a shift in the beginning of that chapter Oz guy is playing with these blackout curtains that prevent bombs from falling on her parents home.
Then she's in a play uh, reenacting a Um, an event that happened or a war that happened in Turkish history. Um, osga keeps talking to this this painting. Um, And she starts to things start to change a little bit for her. She starts to realize that she doesn't want to die, and that she doesn't want to die for ataturk, and she starts to worship him a little less.
At the end of this chapter in chapter five. She gets a ruler. And she thinks that's really neat. Um, also this This conservative, this right-wing government, gains power in the country, through the military, and that right-wing government starts punishing. Left-wing groups and killing and murdering them. Um, and we learn about that.
Um there are people protesting these deaths and they're out in the street protesting the deaths and the right-wing government doesn't want people to know about what the what the government's doing to the people in the streets. And so they end the TV broadcast. They don't let anyone film it and they don't let anyone broadcast it so no one knows, right?
They're trying to limit knowledge. And Osgate talks about what happened on the TV and her teacher is a part of that right-wing government. And so her teacher picks up a ruler and smacks them all on the hand. To get them to not talk about things that the government doesn't want them to talk about.
Um,
Yeah, so I want you to maybe have like a summary for each uh page. I

Want

To finish this through the end of it. So in chapter six, it's not as important, it talks about uh, different products that people have in in the um, in Turkey. They learn how to play the mandolin and they play a fun song and that's the end of the chapter chapter.
Six is not a big deal. Chapter seven is a little bit more important. We're learning about Uncle nyach. We learn about. Osgate's father's past. He was a Orphan. Um, and he, his being an orphan affects how he is, as a parent because he's really worried about his kids ending up the same way that he was.
Um, he Grooms really well because he didn't, he wasn't groomed that way when he was younger. And people made fun of him with the holes in his clothes, and his lack of a haircut. And so he tries to make sure that his whole family, you know, has new clothes has haircuts, doesn't look like he used to look when he was younger. Then they go to, uh, they do a fishing trip and then the chapter's over. Then, there's zero and zero. We learn about the educational system in,
Speaker 2 05:52
Uh, turkey.
Speaker 1 05:54
Um, we learned about people that have more and then other people that have less like consumer goods. Um, osga's father is really worried about his daughters, not making their own money and being under the control of men. He doesn't want his daughters to be under the control of men, so he tells them to, you know, do really well in school and earn their own money. Um, We learned up a little bit more in chapter nine about the educational system, about these tests that get you into better schools, which in turn gets you to earn more money. And appellain does a lot better than osgay in school. And there's this rivalry between the two sisters. And in the end, she starts to fall in love with this guy. Um, who's on TV? Um, he was A scuba diver. I don't know what his name is. He was a scubaizer. It's a oh man. I can't remember his name. I'll come up with it. And uh, she starts talking to him and her conversation with this guy in this picture. It's kind of a conversation with herself about whether she should listen to her father and do like an engineering path as opposed to doing something a little bit more artistic, and that's the end of one through nine, and then you can start on 10 and work on that. Stop this thing.
